1100: Breaks Ground on New Child Care Facility in Germany

1100 Architect’s German office was commissioned with the design and construction of a new seven cohort day care center in Niddatal-Ilbenstadt, near Frankfurt. This month, 1100 celebrated the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony on the site alongside representatives of the city and the day care center.

The building’s design follows the natural topography of the slightly sloped site, with variable floor levels and barrier-free access to the courtyard garden. In keeping with the surrounding residential development, the exterior walls facing the streets will have playfully dispersed individual windows, while the courtyard facing walls of the children's group and recreation rooms will feature full height glazing with operable doors.

The one-story, multi-planar roofed building is designed in a U-shape to provide three wings for education and care distinguished by a child's age. There is a wing for children over three years, a wing for children under three years, and a connecting core area with various common spaces, administrative offices and technical rooms. The building is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
