Four Squires Residence
When two longtime friends acquired a property on Long Island’s East End, they were faced with a challenging 1.5-acre waterfront site marked by a wedge-shaped lot and deteriorated structures, including an historic clapboard house. In response, 1100 Architect initiated a comprehensive redesign, transforming the site into a harmonious residential landscape with seven new structures totaling 5,454 SF. At the center of this thoughtful design is a century-old London Plane tree, preserved as a natural focal point around which the main house, two guest houses, a pool house, cottage, garage, and shed are thoughtfully arranged. The 2,301 SF main house, meticulously reconstructed in a contemporary idiom using vernacular materials, stands as the core of the estate, optimized for social gatherings and refined living.
