Hudson River House

The design of this home, situated on a sloping site in the Hudson River Valley, was guided by the immediate surroundings—the vistas provided by its perch above the Hudson River and the changing elevations of the land. The house’s shifting volumes create terraced areas that present expansive views of the river and the forests surrounding the property. Inside, double-height spaces, a neutral color palette, and sliding glass doors create an open, loft-like setting flooded with natural light. The house is designed to flexibly respond to shifts in climate over the course of the four seasons—it opens up to catch natural breezes in the summer, and is closed and heated by a geothermal pump system in the winter.
