The Berkeley Carroll School Performing Arts Center
For this project, 1100 Architect transformed an 80-year-old church into a contemporary black-box theater space that serves as the new home of the Berkeley Carroll School’s performing arts program. The design—which includes a stage area, control booth, green room, and set design shops—reimagines the previously single-use space as a dynamic performance venue that can accommodate 400 audience members and host performance types ranging from concerts, dance recitals, plays, and film screenings. By retracting the custom-designed blackout curtains, the space can be naturally lit, enabling it to flexibly serve as a classroom or lecture hall.
